Saturday, the 23th inst., is the day fixed by Sir Joseph Ward for laying the foundation-stone of the new Petone railway station. Captain Joseph Wiggins, F.R.G.S., a famous Arctic explorer, is at present a visitor to Melbourne at the invitation >f the Royal Gedgraphical Society of Australasia (Victoria). Captain Wiggins lias devoted liimself during the last 30 irears to the exploration of the Kara Sea, and was the first to navigate a vessel up 2000 miles of the Yenesei—the great Siberian waterway. The appointment of the following members of the Egmont National Park Board las been approved by the Government: Messrs F. J- Wrigley Hawera;William A Collis and James R. Hill, New Plymouth; F. W. Wilkie. Kaponga; Thos. FTastie ’ Strathmore;' William Monk, louse, Stratford; and A. H. MoorejOpulake. Owing to the laVgely-mcreased tourst traffic to Mount Cook, the Government lias found it necessary to> enlarge :he accommodation at Pukaki House,be,ween the Hermitage and Fairlie. The Public Works Department has let a jontract for the extension works to Mr J. B. Peterson.
