The first annual meeting of the Rose and Carnation Club was held last Thursday, the president (Mr C. W. Chilman) in the chair.-’ There were about thirty 7 members in attendance. The annual report congratulated members on the increased interest taken in horticulture, especially in roses and carnations, since the inauguration of the Rose and Carnation Club. A recommendation was made that shows be held in the months of November, January and April. There are 122 members on the roll, and an early increase in numbers is expected. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, the suggestions for holding open shows being favourably commented upon. The - club some time ago decided to give ’ two established roses and one novelty rose to each member (or, at option, two carnations). Nominations of choice closed at last night’s meeting. . The flowers are to be supplied to members during next month. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patroness, Mrs S. A. Rhodes; president, Mr O. W. Chilman; vice-presidents, Messrs W. H. P. Barber and W. J. Harland;. committee, Messrs G. Jeffries, J. H. Mentiplay, N. W. Bell, A. E. Redstone, J. H. Faii-hurst, T. Sim and O. J. Hill; secretary, Mr George Remington; treasurer Mr A. Hamilton; auditor, Mr T. W. Pilcher.

Mr E. C. Corner, of Petone, leaves on a trip to the Old Country by the Oratava, which sails from Sydney on June 4th.
