The offence of making false declarations in the registration ol births and marriages is becoming so frequent m this colony that the Registrars are drawing attention to a recent case- in Christchurch, in which a man was fined £lO for a false declaration _ as to his marriage. The Judge said this offence was a serious one, and lie wolild be very sorry if it were taken for granted that a man committing it could get the advantage of the Probation Act, or receive only a light punishment. It is stated that false declarations in regard to births are not uncommon. There is a serious penalty for this offence.
