WAIPUKURAU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A social that was successful financially and otherwise, was held last Friday, the attendance being very numerous and enthusiastic. An excellent programme was submitted, the items of which were chiefly contributed by the Sunday tchool scholars oF St. Andrew’s, the .function being in aid of the funds of that institution, which will benefit to the amount of some £7. A committee meeting of the Waipukurau) Jockey Glub was held in the Tavistock Hotel, Waipukurau, on the 7th May. Present—'Messrs G. Hunter (chairman), J. J. Bailey, G. Lomas, H. Speedy and Dr Godfrey. The interim balance-sheet in connection with the late race meeting was laid on the table, and ishowed a profit of £340. Several accounts were passed for payment. It was resolved to paint the recently erected running rail, and institute some necessary sanitary improvements. A sum of £5 was voted for the purpose of buying and planting trees on the property. A bonus to the secretary, Mr W. G. Nightingale, for the able manner m which he had performed l his duties in association with the annual fixture, wals granted, and the committee expressed . appreciation of his effolrtis. It was also resolved to pay £125 off the mortgage held oyer the club’s property. The first meeting of the newly-elected Road Bear’d was held on the 11th all the members being present. Mr Gow was elected chairman. The balancesheet to the 31st March, 1904, showing a credit balance of £262, was read and adopted. Notice of motion- was giveai that the rate, for the ensjiing year will he |d in the £. Messrs Gow, Grooms and Butler were appointed a Works Committee. The Waipukurau Football Club met Otrmondville Football Club on the Hth May in the competition for the cup ait Waipawa on the club’s grounds near the Tavisitock Hotel. The game resulted in a win for the local club by three points to nil—a penalty kick by F. Sharpin. The game was fast, but neither side was able to cross the line. Mr R. J. Pellow had the whistle 1 .
