Writing to the Hon. O. H. Mills from Sapporo, Japan, under date 29th March last, the Japanese Commissioners, who were sent by their Government to inquire into our institutions and the prospects of trade between this country and Japan, acknowledge, with hearty thanks, the receipt of various Government publications Mr Mills had sent them since their return- Their report, they say, will probably not be finished before August next, when they, will have much pleasure in reciprocating his kindness by sending the Minister a copy. They were so delighted with the official “Year Book” issued by the Registrar-General that they ask Mr Mills to send it to them regularly. Their letter concludes as follows:—“It is just a year "ago since we visited your country, and had the pleasure of meeting you. How well we recollect now and then the kindness of your people and the beauties of nature in your country. Oiir country is now at war with Russia, but we are making every effort to bring peace again to the Far East in the rayis of the Rising Sun. We are thankful to the British, as well as to the Americans, for their warm sympathies/*
