/. A New Zealander, lately returned to Wellington from Smith Africa, reports that work fa ve'ry hard to procure there. In Capetown many Australians and New Zealanders are in perilous plight, some of them.being so low -that they have to subsist on the refuse from boa rdling-house tables and on casual charity. ■ • ~ r. Permission to float timber down Wangainuii river is to be withheld in future by the Wellington Land Board, . This action 'has been decided on in consequence of advice received from the ■Dnder-Seoretary of Crown Lands to the effect that floating timber would cause considerable obstruction to the tourist traffio on the Wanganui river. “' .
