A machine, ■which piomises to become a ’general convenience, has been constructed and erected outside the General Post Office, where it will bo available to the public this morning. The contrivance is on the penny-in-a-slot principle, and by ite use letters may be stamped ready fou* posting with little trouble. As a special ink,, which reacts to a test, is iused, the chance of fraud is reduced to a- minimum. If it is shown that the machine supplies apublic want, it is expected that it will he ge iorally adopted by the Postal Department :.
