Messrs Freeman It. Jackson and Co. (in conjunction with Abraham and Williams, Ltd.) report on their Joltnsonville sale as follows: —We had a full entry of bullocks. Bidding was slow at the start, hut improved towards the end of the sale. Beef made up to 22s per 1001 b; best bullocks £8 17ls 6d, others £8 10s to £8 15s, light £7 17s 6d to £B, rough sorts £7 5s to £7 15s, light £6 7is'6d. Jackson and Co. report that at their Waverley sale they had a full yarding* more stock coming - forward t&an advertised. The cattle yarded were of good quality. Bidding was brisk throughout, and nearly everything sold at auction. Several good pens of sheep sold readily. Prime milling 2s lOd to 3s, medium to good 2s Gd to 2s 9d, best fowl wheat 2's 3d to 2s 4d, broken 2s to 2s Id, sacks extra. Oats.—There is moderate inquiry for good feed and milling, but orders were readily filled without altering quotations. Prime milling Is 4£d to Is sd. good to best feed Is 3d to Is 4d, medium and inferior 9d to Is 2d, sacks extra. SOUTHERN STOCK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, April 27. Fat cattle.—About two hundred head were penned, including some very prime beetf. The sale opened slowly, butt afterwards improved, and at the Close, previous week’s, rates were current. The market was topped by six steers, which realised £ll 10s to £l2 ss, others £6 5s to £lO 12s Gd; heifer® made £5 15s to £8 7s Gd. cows £5 15s to £8 15s. Per 1001 b beef at the close sold at 18s to- 22s Gd. Fat sheep.—There was a moderate entry in numbers, with a good proportion of prime wethers and ewes. The sale opened with good spirit, at firmly maintained prices, and hardened as it went' on, the keen competition of exporters chiefly conducing to one of the best sales yet known at Addington. Some of the wethers must have- realised fully 5d per lb. and ewe-s 4d. Very few wethers sold for less than £1 a bead, and many ewes fetched over that figure. The range of prices was, for good to prime wethers, 20s to 24s lid, lighter weights 18s to 19s 9d, prime heavy ewes 19s to 225, extra to 245. medium 16s to 18s, inferior 12s 9d to 15s. merino wethers 14s to 17s 9d. Fait lambs.—The entry was about an average in number, and included some very prime lots. Competition was extremaly_ animated, and an improvement on previous week’s values was established. Best freezing lambs brought from 16s to 17s 4cl, an extra heavy line making 18s; lighter sorts, but still of freezing quality, from 14s Gd ; unfinished lots from 13s. St-oire siheep. —A full entry met very keen demand, and previous rates were fully maintained. Pigs.—There was a large entry, .including a consignment of stores from the Chatham Islands, mostly Tarn worth cross —rough in quality and poor in condition—which had the effect of depreciating prices in this department. Fat pigs were firm. Baooners .sold at 45s to 545, 'one pen reaching 58s Gd (equal to 4£d per 3b), porkers 33s to 42s (or 4id to 5d per lb), large stores IGs to 255, weaners 10s to 15s. Chaff : Fair supplies continue to come forward, and in the case of prime quality are readily quitted on arrival. For good sound chaff values are barely so firm, while ’medium and inferior sorts are quite out of favour, and extremely difficult to deal with. Prime oaten sheaf, £2 12s Gd to £2 15s; choice, to £3; medium to good, £2 to £2 10s; inferior, light, and straw chaff, £1 10s to £1 17s Gd per ton (bags extra). Hav: The market is more heavily supplied, and sale's are difficult to effect on the basis of late quotations. Prime quality sells at £2- 15s to £3; medium to good, £2 5s to £2 10s; inferior and coarse, £2 to £2 2s Gd per ton.
