WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.

The Land Board met on Thursday. The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr Strauchon) presided, and there were also present Messrs A. Reese, John Stevens and T. 11. Robinson. Leave of absence was granted to Mr Dawson. 11. Miller was given six months’ time' in which to reside on section 120, block 13, Belmont (Mangaraki Settlement). ( A report was received from the District Surveyor on the applications received for land in tlie Kaitielri block, and it was resolved to provisionally approve the applications as usual. An opinion was received from the Crown Laav Officers to the effect that the Board had no power to charge royalty on the Kaitieke sections, as the price fixed for the land included the value of the timber. It was resolved by the Board to act on the opinion under the circumstances, as it would not be advisable to withdraw the land and refuse the applications. Jacobsen; S. D. Thomson, Tararua, to W. Bell; C. Gibbons, Mangahao, to E. W. Ruddick; D. McCracken, junr., Hautapu, to A. Schinkel; administrator in estate of late F. 11. T. Batley, Pukeokahu, to E. Batlev; administrator in estate of 11. Sedcole, Mount Cerberus, to E. Sedcole; R. Keene (as mortgagee of G. E. Taylor, Kaitawa) to J. T. Kent; T. L. Walker, Ilokio Native Township, to T. A. Jones; C. Todd, Kaiwaka, to J. T. White; A. A. Addenbroolce, Tiriraukawa, to D. Todd; C. C. Charles, Tararua, to- A. G. Edmonds. Subject to ranger’s report the following transfers were approved:—W. D. Owen, Puketoi. to R. B. Owen; P. Ducey, Rakautoro Village Settlement, to E. Deakin; W. Lane. Raetihi Village Settlement, to G. S. Gould; G. E. Greaves, Mangahao, to L. Grant. Ranger’s reports are to be obtained as to proposed transfers from W. Spring, of Hautapu, to E. G. Beeehey, and from T. Lynch, Maungakaretu. to G. O. Gibb.

G. Chatfield was given exemption from residence on sections 13c and 14, block 6, Mount Cerberus, and was accorded permission to transfer to A. Chatfield. A provisional, transfer of section 23, block 8, Makotuku, from Mrs J. McLeod, to A. J. Ross, was granted, transfer to be completed in six months’ time when improvements shall have been made.

An. application for the transfer of section 51, block 10, Rewa, was not approved. A transfer of section 23, block 6, Mount Cerberus, from W. Gleeson to Joseph Chatfield was approved subject to the transfer of a small portion of the section (already approved by the Board) being completed. The Board rescinded a previous resolution, and authorised a transfer of section part 2 of 281, and part 1 of 281 block 11, Wainuioru, to M. Barrer, it having been shown that the sections had been sold long prior to the making of a proposal by R. T. Douglas for adjustment of fencing boundaries. Miss L. O’Neill was given permission to transfer sections 1 and 3, blocks 1 and 18 ■ Mangawheno, to P. A. O’Neill. In respect of E. J. Prendergast’s sections at Horowbeuua East Village Settlement, the Board sanctioned a transfer to M. Walsh, tlie Commissioner recording hia dissent from the decision. After consideration had been given to an application for variation of a previous resolution, the Board decided to adhere

to its previous decision regarding the Apiti Creamery site. It was resolved -to approve of section 1. block 7, Waipalnara being reoffered as second-class land at 20s per acre, and that it be brought under the operation of. the Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Act, Section 34, block 14, Tararua, is to be reoffered as second-class - land, at 10s per acre, weighted with =£l6 for improvements, and to be brought under the operations of the Busli and Swamp Crown Lands Act. With the latter provision, section 1, block 14, Tararua, is to be reoffered ais second-class land at 10s per acre, weighted with £147 10s for improvements.; also to offer, (under similar conditions) section 2, block 13, Tararua, at 10s per acre, weighted with £67 10s for improvements. A. Buiming applied to sublet section 10. block 4, Taihape Township, to E. Johnson, for the erection of a cordial factory; rental £l2 per year, with right of renewal for another year. This was approved,'with a proviso that no compcnsatiju would be payable for improvements effected on the section. E. Pilkingtou applied for twelve or eighteen month’ exemption from residence on section 1, block 10, Aohanga, on account of ill-health. It wag resolved that he should apply to sub-let for the period required. A. E. Boyes applied on behalf of himself and brother for permission to run stock on section 6. block 9, Tararua. Resolved that it was not advisable to grant the request, but that any arrangement applicant might make with Mr Wiggins ■for the time being would be favourably considered.

An application for permission to cut firewood and fencing material from the Crown lauds on Motukawa Block was refused, as the land is being held back for milling purposes. Section 51, block 16, Makuri, is to be re-offered as second-class land, at 12s 6d per acre, weighted with £99 for improvements, and chat the land be brought under the operation of the Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Act, as light bush'land. Section 4, block 4, Ngamatea is to be maintained as a reserve.

Section 18. Pongaroa Village Settlement, is to be re-offered for selection as it stands when it shall revert to the Crown.

After consideration liad been given to a report by the Crown Lands Ranger regarding building sites on sections 363, 367 and 368, blocks 5 and 10, Wairoa, the Board resolved to take no present action.

The following forfeitures were rescinded, conditions having lately been-com-plied with:—- e T. Richardson, section 91, block 14, Apiti; E. Johnson, section 17, block 6, Mt. Cerberus; K. D. McKenzie, section 15, block 11, Makuri.
