PUTTING DOWN CARPETS

The secret of carpet-laying is simple, brat it is all the more worth passing on for the benefit cf other homemakers. All depends on the order in which the different sides of the carpet are tacked. First, tack across the end of the room, across the end of the breadths of carpet —min/L, not along their length. Taok this end firmly and rather closely; then take the opposite end, leaving t-hei two sides loose until• the end has been stretched tightly and tacked in place. By taking the opposite end for the second row of tacks one can pu'll the c-arpelb true, while the average carpet put down by inexperienced hands and tacked along one end and then down the side is apt to be pulled askew. The two ends fastened, the carpet is true to' the room, and the work of tacking the sides is soon accomplished. These do not require tacking as closely as the ends except in front of doors.
