('From On Own Correspondent.A The lovely weather we are- now ex perioacing is like springtime, fruit treeia are emu ing out in blossom, and the grass is luxuriant. Two of our streets are finished and having been made fine bread roads'they a-e a credit to Mr B. Poole, the contractor, and his employees. M- ssrs Robbie and Henson have recently re’timed from, a trip to the Hot Lakes hnvi- g received much benefit and pleasnrr from their tour. Orchard pilfering appears to be rather prevalent at present. This is really too bad, and is not the courtesy a stranger should receive. On Friday evening an 'exceedingly su * iwissful social was held in our Pubb’c Hall in aid of our Public Library. Tin affair was carried out by the Libraiy Committee in first-class style. Various competitions took place, for which rea”/ valuable prizes were given., these pin j-;s having been donated by traideamea m Palmerston North and Feilding. Splp-i----dikl refreshments were provided by dm ladies of the district, and besides Mm amusements' mentioned, songs were g'ven by Miss Desmond, Messrs Thomson mil Slipper, and tlie piano was ably played by Misses Baker and Scheldt. Mr M‘NV . of Feilding, opened the proceedings oy a .sou ring tune on the bagpipes, which was highly appreciated. The whole concluded with a dance. The Chairman of the L brary Committee. Mr G. H. Espiner, presiiied, and made an eloquent appeal to those present to support - the library. The financial results of the were very good—about £lO.
