ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

WELLINGTON CENTRE. The annual general meeting of St. John Ambulance Association, New Zear land Wellington Centre, was held last Friday in St. Paul’s schoolroom, Sydney street. There was a lax’ge attendance. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Ranfurly, presided. Amongst those occupying seats on the platform were the Mayor (Mr Aitken). the Bishop of Welilington (Dr Wallis), Hon O. H. Mills (Coanmissioner of Customs), Dr Chappie, Rev Newman Hall and Rev A. Iveogh. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report showed that since the last annual meeting sixteen ambu--sanco classes for men and women had been organised in town and country, at which 323 pupils were instructed, and 183 passed the various examinations. One of the city classes was formed for the instruction olf several members of tho Harbour Board staff in first aid, and Dr Chappie delivered the lectures with highly satisfactory (results. Through tho exertions of Mr C. R. Ralph, two classes were organised at Petone, and Mr E. Ilitchings has kept the association prominently before the public at Palmerston -North. An excellent claes was organised at the Wanganui Collegiate School, and d!asses were_ also formed at Masterton and Dannevirke. The committee thanked the members of tho medical profession for their valuable services. The committee engaged a professional nurse, at £IOO per annum, to work in thi cottago homes of tho sick peer, and her efforts will be supplemented by some of tho members of tho St. John Ambulance Nursing Guild, as necessity arises. The president of the guild (Mrs S. A. Rhodes), and other (ladies duly elected for tlie purpose, have undertaken the responsibility of managing tins special department of tho association in Wellington. The committee urged that, consequent on the growth of the city and the advent of tho electric tramway service, a building is urgently needed for an ambulance station, where one or two experienced ambulance mien with appliances would always be ready to attend accident oases in the streets, and work under instructions from medical men. Provision should also bo made for a lecture ha-lil, rooms for the Ambulance Corps and Nursing Guild, shelter for the horse-ambulance, and quarters for the St. Jchn Ambulance nurse. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of the chairman, seconded hy Dr - Chappie. PRESENTATION OF AWARDS.

Seed as an associate of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, for services extending over fourteen years in each instance.

Demonstrations of ambulance work given by member's of the association proved very interesting to the audience.

On the motion of Mr C. P. Powles, seconded by Dr Henry, hearty votes of thanks were accorded to hi.s Excellency for presiding, and to those who had taken part in the demonstration of ambulance work.
