WASHED INTO THE RIVER.

THE FATE OF CAD W ALL AD ER AND UDY. Special to the “Mail.” MARTTNBOROUGH, April 10. The body of Owen Udy, drowned hi the Ruamahanga river on Thursday, was recovered to-day. The river had silted up about the body until only one foot was showing. Cadwallador’s body has not yet been found. The young men were at Ponatahi, fifteen mile® from Carterton, at half-past twelve on Thursday afternoon. They intended to take a short- cut to Carterton, and rodie towards a ford on the Ruamaha, nga river, near Messrs Bale and Burt’s sawmill. This ford is one of the worst in the river. Yesterday, about 11

o’clock, Mr Hugh Morrison, aa'lio resides in the vicinity of the disaster, noticed two riderless horses standing shivering under the bank of the river, about ten chains from the ford. Overcoats were strapped) to the saddle®, over which were swung the stirrupi-irons. The bridle of one horse was badly broken. It is surmised that Udy was washed from his horse, and that CadAvallader broke his 'bridle in attempting to rescue his comrade, and then fell.
