BALLANCE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The Montgomery Entertainers gave a performance here a few days ago, and delighted a very appreciative audience. One great mistake made is in not .advertising charges and many settlers are somewhat put about on arriving at the door and finding that they have not sufficient entrance money, thinking that the usual “shilling” will be sufficient. Mir Morrison while riding in to service on Sunday met with a rather painful accident. He was thrown from his bicycle when on top of Birnie’s Hill and picked up by Mr Crawford in an unconscious state and taken to the hospital at Pahiatua, where his injuries were attended to>. It was found that lie was suffering from a severe sc flip wound, -..range to say, on recovering consciousness he could not account in any way for the accident. It is probable that he struck a stone and was thrown from his machine.

This speaks well for the; interest tho settlers take in the education of their children, and at the same time gives the teacher every encouragement to push them on. A little girl named Doris Failloon, aged 10 yeans, died last week of inflammation of the bowels. She was a bright and promising child, and .was .at school up to within five days of her death. This is the third death among children of school age within the last four years. Much sympathy was expressed with the parents in their bereavement. Most of the settlers and all the school children followed the little one’s remains to their last resting place, where the Rev J. McOaw conducted an impressive ceieinony. April £>th. t
