PRESENTATION TO MR. L DORSET

Mr Arthur Dorset-,, who is relinquish-* ing tho position of secretary to the Wellington Education Board after twentyfive years’ service, was the recipient of a presentation from the Board’s staff on Friday afternoon. Among those present- were Air Frank Bradey (chairman of the Board), Messrs A. D. Riley Gate Director of the Technical School), Inspector F. H. Bakewell, Messrs R, Port, J. Varnhiam, A. AicDougahl, W, Turnbull, E. Hylton, J. Lauton and R-.. Edwards.

Inspector Bakewoll® (in the absence of )Chief-Inspector T. R. Fleming) said they all regretted having to say goodbye to their late secretary. He need not mention the many good qualities of Mr Dorset. They had all experienced his considerations and many kindnesses, and all appreciated his cheerful and sagnuine nature. On behalf of the staff, he wished Mr Dorset every happiness and success in the future, and asked him to accept a smoker’s oaken cabinet. Hie cabinet bore a silver-plate inscribed: —'“A. Dorset, Esq., Secretary Wellington Education Board,' 1878-1904. From his late colleagues.” Mr F. Bradey, Mr A. D. Riley, Mr R. Port and Mr W. Turnbull also spoke in appreciation of Mr Dorset’s services to the Board, and of his excellent personal qualities. Mr Dorset thanked the donors all ; very cordially for them handsome gift. Things were, he thought, very differeent now to what they were when he first entered the service of the Board. The district then extended as far as the Patea river. To-day there were only nine left of the staff then in the service. Tho years rolled by, and he had felt toe bonds of office life growing on him, and ffe didn’t like it- It had given him great pleasure to b© associated in his work with those present, and he might say there had never been any friction. The health of Air Dorset was proposed in fitting terms by Mr Bradey, and drunk with musical honours, and cheer® for Mr and Airs Dorset.
