ATHLETIC NOTES
(By "Advance.”! W. Black, of Invercargill, represented tiffs colony ait the Stavell (Victoria) Athletic Club’s meeting, held on Satur•day and Monday last. In the Easter Gift, of 100 .sovs. 130yds, Black has 10yds. W. McManus (3ycls) is scratch, and the limit 14yds. At Oamaru on Jan. 1 and 2 Black won three handicaps from scratch, and the 220yds championship of New Zealand. At Invercargill on March 16th Black rail fourth in the final of the 'Sheffield Handicap from virtual scratch. An aboriginal named W. Isaacs, winner of the third Queensland hundred, on 9ycls, may be hard to beat. A meeting was held at Ivaponga recently, when it was decided to form an athletic club. f 'The election of officers result:#'.! as follows: —Patron, Mr O. E. Major, M.H.R. • president, Mr R. H. Kelly, M. Fitzgerald, G. O’Sullivan. Old, Hayes, Newitt, King, Herbert, Walker and Cullen. It was decided that the spouts be held on Thursday, 21st April.
