AN INTERESTING DAY AT tauherenik.au.

For the opening day of its autumn meeting on Saturday last- the Wairarapa Racing Club ay as favoured with splendid weather. There was a large attendance at the picturesque Tauiieirenikau racecourse. The special train , from Wellington was largely patronised., and a. fair number journeyed to tlic meeting from Masherton.

Some interesting racing Avas witnessed. A mishap, fortunately unattended with any serious consequences, occurred during the hurdle race. Gipsy Jack showed the Avay to the second hurdle, in front of the stand, ay hero lie toppled over. Haerere, ivho followed Gipsy Jack, galloped over the horse and rider, and it appeared as if SL Jackson was seriously hurt. The jockey escaped with a shaking, and was able to fulfil some of his engagements later in the diay. Seven of the eight ea - cuts on the card fell to three stables. The. Blen-heim-owned Seaweed was favourite for the hurdles, but ay as never dangerous. The bolding going probably accounted for the failure of several fancied candidates. The two light-AYeights, Ivaiimoe and Haerere, had the finish to tlieinseh'cs. The first-named should Avin again to-day. Mr Vallance’s other sucoasses were scored with Matamau, avlio won a double.
