Although the search for McKenzie. —who it is believed can give some information concerning the murder at Te Awaite—is being vigilantly kept up, no trace can be found of him. The police are satisfied that the man is not in the district.

The annual report of the Chamber of Commerce, to be presented on Thursday, deals exhaustively with the trade of the colony for the twelve months ended September last. The total export trade of the colony was valued at £14,903,527, as against £13,302,882 for 1901-02. In spite of a falling-off of £417,723 in grain and grainstuffs, tho value of New Zealand produce shipped was greater by £1,054,172 than the preceding year, so that, apart iron grain products, the values show an increase of sheepskins, frozen meat, butter and cheese, kauri gum, hemp, £2,071,895. Nearly two-thirds of this increase, however, was the result of tho higher prices which ruled for wool and sheepskins, frozen meat, butter and cheese, kauri gum, hemp, tallow, etc. The total value of the.exports from "Wellington shows an increase for the. year of £381,384. and of £783,514, as compared with 1900-1. The shipping visiting this port during the past .year shows the substantial increase of 313 vessels and 283,657 tank of net register, having readied a total of 2876 vessels n.ml 2.122.229 tons.net register.'-
