THE EGMONT CO-OPERATIVE BOX COMPANY’S WORKS, ELTHAM, TARANAKI.
One of the chief industries of the Eitham district is the butter-box and cl-eese-case factory. It is owned by the farmer’s, who also run the dairy factories in the district. The company is controlled by a directorate consisting of Messrs B. Dive (chairman), Joll, James Marx and Campbell, and the manager and secretary is Mr It. G. Barr. The output of butter-boxes and cheese-cases from this factory amounts to about 160,000 a year in the manufacture of which 1,210,000 ft of white pine is used. The factory contains an up-to-date plant of the latest machinery. Two box naming machines are in constant use, and these minimise the cost of manufacture. The machines put together over one hun • died jointed boxes an hour. The starting of an industry of this kind speaks well for the enterprise of the farmers of this district. Illustrations of the works appear in this issue.
