WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD.

The Wellington Board of Education met ■on Thursday. Present—Messrs F. Bradey (chairman), YV. G. Buchanan, M.H.R., James Roberteon. W. H. Field, M.H.R., W. Allan, A. W, Hogg, M.H.R., E. Feist, and J. Kebbell. Leave of absence was given to Mr Lea.

The inspectors, in reference to the cookery classes, stated that they had no information whether the department intended to continue the capitation grant of 15s or to reduce it to 10s 1 , as stated in the regulations, and until tlidy had definite information o-n .this point, they were unable to make definite recommendations. In the meantime, they recommended that Miss Millington should complete her course to the schools in the Pahiatua district, which ended on March 31st, and that in the city Airs Neeley, who hoioia first-class certificates from the Birmingham and Midland School of Cookery in artisan and high-class cookery, should be appointed as temporary teacher at a salary of £IOO to organise the work until further arrangements could be made. This was agreed to. The inspectors submitted the following list of pupil teachers fur approval: Lower Hutt, Frank Gamble; Petone, Misses Agnes Webster and Marion Thornton; Levin, John Finlay son; Grey town, .Misses Nellie Macey ana Alary Clarke; ,Carterton, Arthur Roydhouse; Masterton, Mini Irene Murray. From the following list pupil teachers may be selected for any part of the district Ivy lornis, Autry Hitchcock, Alyta Bird, Margaret Battereby, Elsie Grey, Rose Clark, Jessie freeman, Emily Colson, Alary Campion. Eistber Day, Mary Kilmartin, Alildred Stuckey, Winifred Thomson, Alice Gertrude Lamibert, Ethel Greenwood, Mabel Staveley, Florence D’Arey, Olive Renall, Lilian Turkington, Sophia Alalia,hair, Bertha Cooper, Pearl Dale, Harold Alonaghan and Gerald Smith. The lists were agreed to. The scholarships were formally awarded ip aoeordanioe with the recent report of the examiners. The results have been already published. •The resignations of Miss AI. Player, assistant at Te Aro, and L. Downing, liinenioa, were accepted. The truant officer for the city wrote resigning his position and it was decided to call for’ applications for the position. Leave ol absence for one month was granted to Miss M. Hitchcock and Mists Duncan, and Miss D. Hamilton’s leave was extended for a- Month. Damage to the extent -of £62 having been caused to the achiool at Ivaiparoro, between Master ton and Etketahunai, it was announced that the authority to spend the mpuiey in renewing the building had been granted by the Education Department, * , „ ' An application for a grant of £1 j for an additional room at Kahautara was not agreed to.
