At Trentham. on Saturday afternoon five corps (Guards. College, Zealandia, Post ana l Telegraph anid City Rifles) competed for the Ran furl y Cum which was vyon last v ear by the College Rifles. Lieut- ' Colonel Collins wa-s in charge. The .weather was extremely bad 1 Dm- shooting, there being heavy rain and a thick fog, which nearly obscured the targets at the longer range-s. Twenty-four men in each company fired, - the possible being 500 points—4Bo for shooting and twenty for drill and good volleys. The aompetition resulted in a. draw (252 points between the College Rifles and Zealandia Rifles, the College men obtaining 236 points for shooting and 16 for drill, while the Zealandias -scored 237 for ShioOtinig and 15 for drill. When thO targets were examined a doubt arose as to five hits of,the Zea-landd-as, it being contended that they were old marks, the rain having washed the patches off, but the. dispute was settled by Captain Turner, of the CollegeRifles. -who agreed to make a draw of it,, and shoot, off during this week. O-cher sabres wore: —-Wellington Guards, shooting 195, drill 18, 213; City Rifle®, shooting 189, drill 14, 203;./ Posit and Telegraph Rifles, shooting 187, drill 14, 201. UPPER HUTT CLUB v. In fact so strong: was thes. wind that the larger long-distance targets could- mo-t be. used, and the match had consequently to be fired at the short ranges only. Notwithstanding the weather a most interesting c-o-mteat was witnessed, which ended in. a victory for Karori by 68 points. . The conditions were—Nine men a side; ranges 200 and ; 300yds,- 10 shots at each. Following were the scores:

MASTERTON, January 28. A home and home match has taken place between the Opalci Rifles and the Gore Rifles. The Opaki team fired at Opaki to-day, and G<me at Gore yesterday. The shooting of bath teams vials excellent. Opaki put up what is believed to be ,a New Zealand record for club matches,: the aggregate being 751 for eight men. Hyde and Henry each scored 97 out of a possible 105, Welch and King 95, Turnbull and McKenzie 93, Head 91, Winslade 90, Gore’s total was 720, one man scoring 101 out of 105, and another 100. Opaki thus won by 31 points.
