UPPER HUTT.

On Wednesday evening last a very pleasant gathering of residents and friends assembled together to celebrate the opening of the new town- Tapper Hutt, when the ladies oftijp 0 district thoroughly enjoyed themsely^s ? * strums of Minifie’s melodious,Jjapircmy. Tlje evening was honoured seuce '.of the member for t|a who formally opened the has|j} complimented the gn .y the energy and spirit of enterprise displayed in erecting such a costly and roomy building. Mr Wilford also contributed towards the pleasure of the evening with several songs. Miss Whiteman graoef-uriy played several extras. The catering was everything that copld be desired. The Hutt Hall Boaqi has a lot of work before them yet before they can sit at ease. There is fencing to be done, more seats to construct, and a hundred and one little minor matters to attend to. The Board has a very able secretary in Mr. Phil. Davis.' 1 The Construction of the: hall has hOCn carried out by Mr- Hayes, builder, of the Lower Hutt, most of the timber being supplied by Messrs Greenwood and Whiteman,- from their sawmills at Akatarawa.
