JERSEY AND GUERNSEY BUTTER TESTS
At the Tunbridge Wejlls show, England, 22 Jerseys competed and 6 Guernseys. The cows were milked out on Wednesday, 22nd July, at 5.10 p.m., and again at 7 a.m. and 5.10 p.m. on Thursday, after which the milk was separated. Churning commenced on Friday morning at 8.45, and was completed at 11.42. Tho awards were published at 1.30 p.m. Tho first prize Jersey winner was Mr A. M. Hallett’s Gold Mine XIII. who had been 103 days in milk; yielded 421 b 13oz of milk, making 21b 7oz butter, or a ratio of pound of milk bo> pound of 17.56. Tho 22 cows averaged 103 days in milk, yielded an average of 331 b, 2£-oz of milk, making an average of lib 12-Voz of butter, or an average butter ratio of 18.69. The winner of the first prize among the Guernseys' was Mr J. P. Morgan’s Rich esse du Chene 3rd, 124 days in milk, yielding 341 b 6oz of milk, making lib lllfOZ butter, or ratio of lb of milk to butter of 19.81. The six competing Guernseys averaged 107 days in milk, yielding an average of 321 b 13oz milk, making an average of lib 7oz butter, or abutter ratio average of 22.74.
