(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tho Waipukurau Gymnasium Club concluded their winter season o-n the 11th inst. with a “social and dance. Members of tiie club gave exhibitions on the horizontal bars, and some ' tumbling” items. The most notable feature ol tho display was some club swinging by the lady members. Mr C. Mersylees, instructor, may bo complimented on the proficiency of the members. Tho vocalists were the Misses Sharpin and Merrylees. Tho annual general meeting of the .cricket club was held on Saturday, 12th inst. Mr F. Bailey presided. The report and balance-sheet Were adopted, the latter showing a small credit. All the outgoing officers were re-elected, and Mr Chambers was re-elected to the position of secretary and treasurer. Mr Lee was elected a delegate to attend tire meeting of the sub-association, last Friday. At the commencement of last season, Messrs H. Williams and Sons presented a bat for the highest batting average. It was won by Mr Chambers, with an average of 22. Mr Farrell presented a ball for the best bowling average, and this was won by Mr Woodger, with an average of 3.3. Twelve new members were elected. The secratary reported the ground in good condition, and it was decided to commence practice next Monday evening. Mr P. W. Sampson suffered a rather severe accident last Saturday niglm. While driving to Waipawa with some friends, the horse took fright at a passing train, and capsized the buggy and occupants. Mr Sampson had liis collarbone dislocated, was severely cut and knocked about, and is temporally an inmate of the hospital. His fellow travellers escaped with a shaking. > A meeting of the trustees of the Waipukurau Public Library was held last Saturday evening. Present —'Messrs .Tones (chairman), Chambers, Pritchard, and Cooke. It was resolved to. hold a social on beha'lf of the building fund on * Wednesday, the 7th October; further, that Miss Win,love be asked to convene a. meeting of ladies to make arrangwuettits :-;cr tha same. Mr F. Bailey was appointed a trustee to fill the vacancy caused by Mr resignation. The meeting was adjourned until the 30th -‘licit, whien the committee of ladies elect will attend by invitation and assist to adjust final arrangements. A number of works by leading writers of . fiction have been added, to the lending department, together with several volumes of bound periodicals, amongst which are “The English Illustrated Magazine,” “Good Words.” “Cassells Magazine,” “Saturday Review.” “Harper’s Magazine,” and the “Wide World MagaThe Takapau and Hatuma (new settlement) football clubs played a match on the ground of the latter last Saturday afternoon. It resulted in a draw, both sides scoring eight points. For Hatuma, a try was secured by Wilson and one by Hall, one of these was converted. For Takapau two tries were obtained by Jackson one being converted. At the conclusion of the game the visitors were hospitably entertained by their opponents. The successful season of the Columbia Skating Rink was concluded on Wodnesday evening with a fancy dress carnival. A numerous company were present, many of the skaters being in fancy dress. Three prizes pf 10s each were given by thie management for the most notable fancy costume, the most proficient lady skater, and the most proficient gentleman slcater. The audience of onlookers deoided by means of recorded votes on a ?rinted form whom were the winners. their choice of most notable costume fell to that worn by Mias H. Bailey (Maori girl), the principal portions of which Were worn by Miss Bailey in a competition at the Maori ball last ,Tune. Most proficient skater (lady), Miss Ida Hunt. Most proficient gentleman skater. Mr •Tas. Ferguson. Twelve entries were made for the orange race, which caused much .merriment and was won. bv Mr C. Cop Her, Mr A.
