LONDON WOOL SALES

BRISK DEMAND AND ADVANCED PRICES.

LONDON, May 5

The wool sales have opened with a brisk demand. Prices are from par to 10 per cent, in advance of last sales.

. LONDON, May 6. At the wool sales the catalogues of Messrs Buxton, Balme and Co.. Jacoinb, Son and Co., and Hoare comprised 8675 bales of Australian aixd 3501 bales from Punta Arenas.

Thei-e was an unusually large attendance, buyers being present from all quarters, and competition was excited for all sorts.

Compared with the closing rates of the March sales, merinos are from par to 5 per cent, higher, fine crossbred 5 to 7£ per cent, and medium and low fully 10 per cent, higher. There are similar advances in lambs' wool aTid clothing wool. Continental buyers are operating strongly in crossbreds.

The New Zealand Loan ana Mercantile Agency, Limited has received the following cablegram from London, dated F.th inst.:—“Wool sales opened bth May. Competition keen; attendance very good. Quantity available, including quantity held over from last sales,, 208,000 tab s. Since close of last sales prices are abort 5 per cent, higher for fine greasj' cu-ss-bred, merino, fine crossbred slipe, fine scoured crossbred; and about 10 to 15 per cent, higher for medium greasy crossbred, medium scoured crossbred, medium crossbred slipe, coarse greasy crossbred, crossbred slipe, and coarse scoured crossbred.”

The United Farmers’ Co-operative Association. Limited, has rec.uvec. the following cablegram from its London agents, dated sth inst.—“ Wool quota t .ions—Fine crossbreds are dearer by 10 per cent: medium crossbreds are dearer * y 10 to 15 per cent.; and coarse crossbreds are dearer by 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, as compared with, last sales.” Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received th© following wool market caolegram from their London house. Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., dated the sth inst.: —Sales have opened strong with brisk competition and a large attendance of buyers. Merino and fine crc.tst.rea have advanced 5 per cenit. Coarse to medium crossbred advanced 10 to la per Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd. have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated the sth inst.:—The ■wool sales have opened. There is a large attendance of buyers, and competition is verv animated. There is an indifferent selection. So far, hardly any merinos have ocen offered. For merinos and tine crossbreds prices are higher by five per cent For medium crossbred wools prices are fifteen per cent, higher than closing rates of last series whilst prices for coarse crossbred are higher by ten per cent, than closing rates of last series.
