WELLINGTON KENNEL CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting cf the above body was field on Friday evening in the ITocadero. Mr R. E. Bannister presided, and there wa.s a small attendance ot members.
Tho report and balance-sheet, which were taken as read, set forth that the year just ended had been a successful one for the club. After years of struggle and many financial difficulties, the club now found itself with a solid credit balance with its bankers, its liabilities paid off, and its costly benching paid for. Tho annual show was not so successful as usual, several strong kennels being unrepresented. As the club was now free of debt, the new committee would be able to devoto more time to working up exhibits and to push the olulb’s interests ahead in various directions. Tho balance to credit, was shown to be £l7 3a 9d.
-The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said he thought the state of their affairs very satisfactory indeed; they had a credit balance of £l7 3a 9d. Their kennels, cages and everything else were paid for, and he did not know that on any previous occasion that they had had the pleasure of meeting together, they had been in such a satisfactory condition. The work of the successful year just ended was a' great deal to the oredit of their secretary, Mr Dovey. and their treasurer, Mr Alec Hill. These gentlemen, as most of them were aware, had done yeoman work, and he thought the club owed them a debt of gratitude for the manner in which they carried oul and conducted the business of their last show. (Applause). Mr S. F. Wright seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Messrs S. F. Wright, C. Kirkland, W. Janson and H. E. Dovey were elected members.
A letter was read from the Philadelphia Dog Show Association, acknowledging the kindness of tho club's committee in offering a special at their show, and assuring tho. cl-ub that the form it took would bo absolute!v immaterial, tho sentiment being the Hat-ure the association took pleasure in regarding. The olub might rest assured that it would always be glad to offer its prizes for competition at any event under the club’s patronage, and it might, without further advice, announce at least two medals from the association at any of its future fixtures. A vote of thanks wai passed to the Philadelphia Dbg Show Association, and the secretary was instructed to forward a copy to the association. It was also agreed that the Finance Committee should purchase and forward a suitable token to the association.
Dr A K. Newman wi-ote retiring from tho position of president, and Mr A. B. Olater requested the removal of his name from the list cf vice-presidents. Votes of thanks were passed to each for their past services. The Earl of Ranfurly was chosen as patron of the olub, and the following honorary officers were elected: —President, Dr Faulke; vice-presidents, Drs Newman, Anson and Do Rerzi, Messrs D. G. A. Cooper, P. Hunter. J. Horrax, R. E. Bannister, F. J. Mills, W. H. S. Moorhouse, W. R. Morris, W. S. Stallard, A. B. Stewart, Orton Stevens, R. Triggs, J. C. Andrew, G. K. Hill and Captain MoKellar Wix; auditor, Mr E. Gerard; secretary, Mr Arthur Smith. Mr Hill declined to accept re-election as treasurer, and the matter was left in abeyance. Mr Dovey vacated the position of secretary owing to his having accepted the secretaryship of the New Zealand Kennel Association, and the chairman paid a tribute to liis past services. The managing committee was elected as follows: —Messrs Harrop (2), Janson, Gaudin, Bernasconi, S. F. Wright, D. Wright and Dovey. It was unanimously decided to select a judge for the forthcoming show from outside the colony, and to communicate with some Australian judges, whose names were suggested, as to their terms.,. _
It was agreed that the next show should be held on the 7th and Bth of August. Messrs Harrop were elected Schedule Committee, and Messrs J. F. Harrop, Dovey and Hill were appointed Finance Committee. The chairman proposed a hearty vole -of thanks tor Messrs Dovey a.nd Hill for their services during the past year, and expressed the gratification he felt that tho club would still, have them. The vote was carried with acclamation. . A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the proceedings.
