The KaroiT and Vivian Clubs met at Day's Bay, and played a fast and estlng game. The form of many of the plavers was distinctly good for ear J y n the season and it was evident ficnn cl. . game that Karori is going to make a bold bid for the championship. It is perraps characteristic of the early part ot the season that both teams l ll< J ul p , \ voices rather much, and ltl^ t ° be this will be avoided m future. Othe, wise the game was a mosc enjoyable one. The result was a win £r' the W«ck* by 5 goals to 1. Putnam (2) G. Davies (2;, and Critchley scored for Karom and Parton for the losers. Connie* ous^S the players were Harcourt, Gninths Putnam and Davies for the Karori and Hoby and Dawson for the \ lvians. Mr Hi or ring was the referee. ‘ Wellington and Victoria College played at Miramar. The former were aardly go strong as in previous years, and the latter team has been entirely remodelled owing to the loss of several strong players in both forward and back divisions The Wellingtons had thei best of the game throughout,, but the splendid defence of the College backs staved off all attempts to score until well on in the second spell. The Wellingtons naturally showed superior combination, and in this way neutralised many of the counter attacks of the College. They managed! to secure) a couple of goals before time was ca.led. Among the winners Hull, Midgiey and Bridge showed up amongst the forwards and. Beere, Preston and Pope in the backs. The shooting was faulty. Deere and King were prominent among the College forwards, and of an even ic <. ot backs Matheson. Kelly, Smith and Bee were noticeable.
JUNIOR MATCHES
The newly-formed Y.M.C.A. Club met the Karori at Miramar and! were defeated rather easily by 6 goals to 1. It was only to be expected that the new club, winch contains only two old players, should lack in knowledge of the game, and in combination. With practice, however, they may be expected to develop into fair form. Peam showed the best form, and on several occasions was the backbone of an attack on the Karori goal. Eor the winners C. Cathie and) Mahoney showed up among the forwards, and Harvey, M. Spiers and Welling among the backs. The shooting of the Karori might he improved. Mr Hatch proved an entirely satisfactory and instructive ieThe Vietoriar-Vivian game resuited in a win for the latter by 4 goals to 1. Donovan on the wing played a good game, whilst Day at half, and. Part>n as “bully” also played well. Fofi the College Dixon as “bully” and Henderson cji the wing played well. Parton (2), Godber and Donovan were the scorers for the Vivians.
