The Royal Humane Society, which meets at Christchurch, has hacl under further consideration the case of F. W. Packard, who was rescued from drotvning in Wellington harbour in December, 1900. For his work in rescuing Packard, W. T. Sliim was presented with a silver medal, but it has been urged that J. Johnston, who SAvaui out from the sbo-re to where Packard was in the water, is entitled to recognition, and the case Avas again brought before the society in order that the claim made on behalf of Johnston might be investigated. The society ,_ however, at its meeting took no action in the matter. Probate in the estates of the following deceased persons was granted yesterday by the Chief Justice: —William Thomas Locke Travers, Joseph Bnrke, John Beauchamp, Arthur Ed.
