SOUTH TARANAKI

(From Our Own Correspondent.) NGAIRE, April 20. Mr Donne, Superintendent of the Tourist Department, has been visiting tho resorts on the southern slopes of Mount Egmont, and it is expected that something will be done to make these localities more easy of access. A farmer in tho Ngaire district has grown a singlo potato olb weight—a monstrosity in the tuber line. The Mayoral elections, in this end of Taranaki at least, are to be decided upon political lines. Scarlet fever and whooping cough are still raging and the school attendance consequently suffering. The body of the unfortunate man Summers, who was drowned while attempting to cross the Waingongoro River near Normanby, has been found about six miles from the spot where the accident occurred. The cold snap that has suddenly arlived has been the cause of a very material drop in the milk supply, and farmers are grumbling someAvhat. A technical school is to be built ’n Stratford. Tenders are out. Old Egmont has been clothed in winter whiteness, and perhaps the last has been seen of his top for this season. A Catholic bazaar at Manaia realised about £3OO. Hockey is starting with great vigour at Hawera.
