At the meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, Mr Wheeler suggested that -steps should be taken to establish .a library of standard works on agricultural, subjects, and he moved that a letter should be sent to Mr Carnegie, asking him to provide the necessary works in accordance with his scheme for establishing libraries. - Mr Cohen seconded the motion, and Captain Hewitt and Messrs Russell and Grey opposed it. Mr J. T. Lang suggested that the proposal would have a much better chance of success if it was intended to associate the agricultural library with the present public library. Mr Buchanan moved as an amendment that the nucleus of an agricultural library, open to all members, should be formed. After further discussion, the amendment was carried. Messrs Buchanan and Birch announced that they were prepared to subscribe £2 2s towards the fund-for this library. The Premier has received from Melbourne a letter from Captain EL. J. Kirkpatrick, wiio was here with the Boer delegates, and from this letter the following is an extract : —“ On the eve of departure for Africa, I write to thank you, on behalf of Lord Milner, for the kindness and consideration shown to our party during our tour of New Zealand, where wc saw so much of interest, and gained a great deal of knowledge which will be of great use on our return.” Captain Kirkpatrick also thanks the officers of the Department of Agriculture, and acknowledges the courtesy received on every hand by the delegates in this colony.
