RUSSIAN MEAT IN LONDON
A consignment of carcases and legs of Russian mutton has lately been marketed in London. The carcases were well packed in serim and paper and in crates, but their quality and condition were so bad that all were condemned by the market authorities as unfit for food. There were indications that want of keep was not the sole cause of emaciation, whilst all were poverty-stricken and lacking in condition. The legs of mutton were entirely denuded of fat and “plain” to a degree hut- ®s they did not show positive signs of disease, they were passed by the inspectors, only to find purchasers, however, at extremely low rates.
