L. Heinemann’s Valenza, syrs, 8.4 2 i Mr R. G. Binding’s Over Norton, | 6yrs, 8.6 ... ... ... 3 , (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, March 20 Racing at Kempton Park last Satinday was seriously interfered with from a spectator’s point of view by a dense , white fog which obscured most of the ! course from those in the stands. Aua- , tralia. however, scored a point by the j victory of Mr Cohen’s gelding Oban, which son of Lochiel and Vehusta, J ijing the steadier of 12st 41b in a held | of six, got home by a short head in ths ! Bf ewards’ Steeplechase Plate of £132 j after a desperate finish with St. Moritz, ! list 41b. Oban started favourite at | 6 to 4 against, and he gave his sun-

praters a rare fright when he jumped bhort into the water with a tremendous sp'asli. He, however, recovered mm-:-cJi with the agility of a cat, and before the field was lost to sight, was seen to he once more in the van, where he remained io the finish. The time ot fiie race was 4miii 11 4-osec.

Up to two miles Oban seems to oc able to take his own part over country or hurdles, and it is a. mystery how it came about that he would never do his best on the flat in this country. He had shown brilliant winning form m Australia just before he left and chat he was equally good when he arrived here he demonstrated more than once, but, unfortunately, only m private, nod we all remember the disastrous results nhicn followed when he was asked to reproduce his form in the Cambridgeshire. He lias. I believe, a delicate constitution, but that alone would hardly account for his amazing failures on the flat. However, he seems to be honest enough at his new business, and stems likely to do good service for his owner during the ‘‘illegitimate” season. Mr Spencer Gollan’s Seahorse 11. proved the victor in the Brook Maiden Hui die Race of £144, decided over a two-mile course at Gatwick last Thursday. The son of Nelson and Moonga had but three opponents—to wit, Buckhunter, 4yrs, list 21b ; Kentish Glory, o; "s, list 31b: and Kennyt-horpe, 4yrs, lOs.t 31b, Seahorse carrying list 7IK Buckhunter was a hot favourite at 5 to 2 on, 4 to 1 being laid against- Seahorse and tens the others. In the race Buckhunter cut out the work from Seahorse 11., with Kentish Glory whipping in, for a mile, when Buckhunter tel!, leaving Seahorse 11. in front of Kennythorpe, and - making the remainder of the running, Seahorse 11. won decisively by four lengths from Kentish who took second place in the line tor heme. This was Seahorse’s first win since he ran away with the November Handicap at Warwick.
