VALUATION OF THE CITY
ASSESSMENTS FOR RATING PURPOSES. Tho City Valuer has completed the valuation of the city for the currentyear. The valuations for this and last year are: —■ £ 1903-04 505,011 1902-03 473,599 Increase ... " ••• £31,412 The increase shown last year over the previous twelve months was £14,771. The return shows 275 new buildings during the year, against 207 for tho previous year. It is upon the valuation of £505,011 that tho Corporation will strike the water and charitable aid rates for the current year. The general, library and four special rates will be struck upon the valuations made by the Government, which are now in course of preparation. The usual valuation notices are now in courso of preparation, and will be sent out from the Corporation offices with respect to tho Council valuations, and tho persons concerned will have opportunity of appealing against the assessment'should they desire.
