Tho district orders issued from the headquarters office for the present month contain the following farewell order from Colonel Newell, C. 8., who retires from the position of officer commanding the Wellington district: — “ 14th February, 1903. —In bidding an official but affectionate farewell to the officers, non-commissioned officers and men of the Wellington district, I desire to convey my high appreciation of tho uniform kindness, courtesy and consideration at all times extended to me by all ranks, to aalsli you continued success as volunteers, and in your private vocations os citizens, and to express re» grefc that pressure of necessary and im<portant Avork in my office has prevented, mo from visiting you as frequently lately as 1 eouH have Avislied.” The ceremonj of christening the infant son of Viscount Oastlereagh, heir to the Marquis of Londonderry, Minister cf Education, took place in the Chapel Royal, St. James’s Palace, cm the 16th December. The ceremony was performed by special request, by the Rev Angus B khune, M.A.. for over sixty years vicar of Seaham (brother of the late Mr J. H. Bethune, of Wellington). Mr Bethune attended at the special request of the Marquis, and the baptismal rite was performed by him, as it had been on the three generations of the family then present. Water from tho Jordan was used, and the child was named Ed Avar d Charles Stewart, his Majesty signing the register.
