THE HAU-HAU REBELLION.

To the Editor of tiie “New Zealand Mail.” Sir —Major-General Sir George Stoddaru IVhitmorc, K.C.M.G., M.L.C., etc., having lately returned from England after publishing a book upon tho war of that terrible epoch of tho colony, than whom a more reliable and abler writer cannot be found living to give an authentic and graphic description of those horrid bloodthirsty and stirring times, would Vc not be well for tho Government to purchase a few copies in order to furnish the public libraries with them, so that the present generation "of young miiitaires and tho general public may have some idea cf the dangers and perilous difficulties their progenitors and the early settlers had to wado through, and so prepare them for a similar emergency—although I trust such another occasion will never arise.—l am. etc., PRO PATRIA. Wellington. IGtii February, 1903.
