Ho came to the colony with a great reputation, and tho best of credentials, and now that tho members of the school have had an opportunity of judging Ins capabilities, they are more than p 1 eased with him. The membership of the school is larger than ever it lias been, and never in its history have the pupils progressed so rapidly or exhibited such keenness in their work.

Members are not required to attempt advanced or difficult feats, but for those who want it, the higher branches of gymnastics can be taught. Tho new instructor has spent practically all liis life in acquiring his skill and knowledge of gymnastics and physical culture, and has had years of practical experience as instructor of leading institutions of both sexes in London. He brings all tho latest and most improved methods, and bis system will do ail that is claimed for it, being something new to the colony, and roa.lly superior, safer, more scientific and beneficial than any other in vogue here. Mr Dovey does not believe in fancy or show work, as he considers the class liours only too short to attain the best results.

The school is now admirably organised for its work, as Mr Dovey has the assistance of twelve leaders, who have been specially trained by him. Ho personally instructs all mass and' cal*stlienio exercises, single stick, etc., and takes the squads on the apparatus in rotation, so that every member has the benefit of his undivided tuition. The gymnasium is situated on the top of Messrs Jackson and Co.’s warehouse, Jervois quay, opposite the band rotunda, and is claimed to be the largest and best appointed, not only in the city, but in the colony.
