With reference to the cabled statement of the Victorian Premier that he had heard nothing further from New Zealand concerning the offer to pay freight on seed wheat for 'droughtstricken settlers, Mr Seddon has informed the Press Association that the replies received from Australia to his offer we're tantamount to saying that assistance was no longer required. From this, and owing to the fact that rains had fallen, no action was taken by the New Zealand Government, and meetings which were to have been held at Wanganui and elsewhere were abandoned. Mr Seddontelegraphed to Mr Irvine and the federal Premier asking that the State Governments should distribute the gifts. This was not noticed, and Mr Seddon cannot now understand Mr Irvine’s remark that New Zealand has taken no further action. The Government is still prepared to rail seeds and fodder and pay freight, and the movement here was only prevented taking active shape by tbe replies received from Australia. Mr F. C.
