News has been received of the death in the Straits Settlements of Mr John Ronhfort, son of Mr J- Rochfort. C.lt., of Napier. Deceased had heen engaged for some years surveying in the Straits Settlements. He was manned to a daughter of Mr M. S. Bell, of NaThe retirement is announced of Captain J. W. Raymond, marine surveyor for the Underwriters’ Association at lh© Bluff. Captain Raymond had been identified with New Zealand shipping for many years. He brought the harqu® Sir Harry Smith through Poveaux Straits as lung ago as 1.850.
