SYDNEY, The inquiry on the Mount Kembla mine disaster was resumed yesterday. One miner stated that he used damp ooal dust for tamping shots. x\nother declared that he had frequently found gas in the mine, but not in sufficient quantity to report. The witness gave further instances of finding gas in the mine. He last saw it nine months ago. He reported it, and was removed from the place. He admitted that the management was very careful, and directly it received the report it stopped work and took precautions. SYDNEY, August 22. The inquiry into the recent disaster in the Mount Kembla mine is proceeding. One of the mine deputies, in his evidence, stated that all the working places were examined or. the morning of the explosion, and repurtea all safe. Seven days before the disaster he discovered black damp in the abandoned workings, but did not report it. The Hospital Saturday Committee will make a general appeal to the public to-morrow in aid of the Mount Kembla relief fund. SYDNEY, August 23. At the Mount Kembla mfne inquiry, counsel for the relatives of deceased miners announced that he had been instructed that there was gas in the mine before the explosion occurred, and that its presence was known.
