On Friday, Lord Ranfurly, who is on a visit to Canterbury, visited the. schools in Christchurch, and in the evening attended a hall given by the Mayor. On Saturday his Excellency went down to Ashburton for a- few; hours, accompanied by Mr Mounteney. Jcphson, and paid a visit to the Old Men’s Home.
The death occurred at Wanganui on Friday, at the age of, 85 years, of Mr S. G. Harris. He arrived in the colony ip 1841, and for two years served on the survey staff of the New Zealand Land Company in Taranaki. In 1858 he-settled down as a farmer in Wanganui. Ho served through the Maori war, including the engagements at Stew,, art’s Redorabt- < <:.
