The Port Nicholson Yacht Club’s Regatta was continued on Saturday in a moderate north-westerly breeze. In the handicap race for first-class, lorangi won, beating Waitangi by 3min 9sec, Rainbow was third, and Maritana a long distance in the rear. Kotiri won the second-class yacht race on time allowance, and the race for third-class yachts was won by Mahaki. The winner of the First-class Yacht Race takes the Mills Memorial Cup for the year, and the winner of the Second-class Yacht Race the Levin Memorial Cup. The following are the results : v Handicap Race, for first-class yachts. First, £10; second, trophy.—Air A. H. Turnbull’s lorangi, set-, 1; Alessrs D. Georgeson and Co.’s Waitangi, scr, 2; Air E. C. E.- Mills’s Rainbow, scr, C. The only other competitor was Alaritana, 15min, Rainbow and Waitangi got away together, fifteen seconds ahead of lorangi. Alaritana was last of all to start, twenty-tliree seconds behind lorangi. The boats had a leading wind down the harbour, a moderate north-wester, and kept well together, but having rounded Worser Bay buoy, Rainbow, in the heat across the harbour, took a course considerably to leeward of Korokoro buoy, off Pet one, whilst both lorangi and Waitangi, in second and third places, remained a good distance to windward of the buoy. Alaritana was at this time a long way in the rear, and quite out of the race. Rainbow, securing the best of the wind, and showing good Weatherly qualities, made a smart heat across, but had to put about under the Ngahauranga cliff and make a beat down to the Korokoro buoy. This mistake in tactics proved fatal to whatever chance she had had of winning, for lorangi and Waitangi, in their well-judged course to windward, were able to weather the buoy without difficulty. lorangi was a few minutes ahead of Waitangi, and this advantage she . kept in the run down to the finishing i point at the Queen’s Wharf. The finishing time? were—lorangi, 5h 1m 295, first; Waitangi, 5h 5m 38s, second; Rainbow, 5h 8m 58s, third. The finishing time of Alaritana was 5h 53m 25.. The winner, lorangi, was sailed with ; great judgment by her owner, Mr A. i H. Turnbull. The Waitangi travelled better under her new mainsail than she did on the previous Saturday. Three of the boats carried topsails at one stage or other of the voyage. In the race for third-class yachts, Messrs Anderson ami Co.’s Alahaki (2min) won, Mr S. T. Silver’s Karaka (smin) being second, and Messrs Barber Bros.’ Alahuta (ser) third. The finishing times were—Alahaki, 5h 27m 28s; Alahuta, 5h 44m 465; Karaka, 5h 4om 455.
