Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following, wool market cablegram from their London house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., dated the 2oth January :—-The market is firm. Compared with the closing rates of last London sales, merino has advanced 5 to 7-J per cent; greasy crossbred, coarse to medium, has advanced 10 to 15 per cent; coarse crossbred, medium to inferior descriptions, advanced a shade, t'bc market is irregular for the latter. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co. (in conjunction with Messrs Abraham and Williams) report as to their Johnsonville sale as follows:—Best bullocks made from £o 10s to £9; others, £7 15s to £8 ss; fat cows, £5 to £6; prime ewes, 12s Id; good ewes, 10s to 10s 4d; medium ewes, 9s to 9s Gd: light ewes, 8s to 8s Cd; good wethers, 11s 6d to 11s lOd; lambs, 10s 3d; light lambs, 8s 7cl to 8s lid; store lambs, 5s to 6s Bd. The. Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, in its report on the London meat market, says :—Several carcases of mutton from the Christchurch Meat Company were shown at Smithfield branded by a new process. The brands came out legibly in embossed figures and letters, and were no disfigurement to the meat. If branding at all is necessary and advantageous, this system seems less objectionable than any hitherto tried. -

Wheat, chick, 2s 5d to 2s lOd : milling, 3s Id to 3s 2d. Oats, local feeding. 2s Cd to 2s 8d; Tasmanian, 3s 3d to 3s 4d. Maize, prime, 3s 4d to 3s sd. Bran, BJd to 9d. Pollard, 9Jd to lOd. Potatoes, Circular Heads, £5 15s to £6. Onions, prime Victorian, £4 5s to £4 10s. Butter, creamery, Is. Cheese, New Zealand, large white, 7d. Bacon, 7d to B}d.

MELBOURNE. January 29. Wheat, 3s Id. Oats. 2s sd. Barley, feeding, 2s 7d to 2s lOd; malting, 4s 6d to 4s 7d. Bran, IOJd. Pollard, 10)d to lOgd. Onions, £3 10s to £4 15s. Potatoes, £2 15s to £3 10s.

ADELAIDE, January 29. Wheat, easier, 2s lid. Flour, £7 ss. Oats, Algerian, 2s 3d; White’s, 2s 4d to 3s. Bran and pollard, lid.

ADDINGTON MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, January 29. Fat cattle—2ls yarded, mostly useful sorts. A rather better demand, considering the large entry, and prices were well upheld at 17s to 23s per 1001 b. Steers, £7 to £9 10s; heifers. £5 15s to £8: cows, £5 to £8 2s 6d. Stores met a good sale for fresh-conditioned cattle. Three-year-old steers brought £6 and heifers £4 5s to £5 2s 6d.

Fat sheep—s3oo penned, mostly ewes. A good demand for good wethers for freezing, which sold at 13s to 16s Id, 400 North Island making 15s to 16s Id. Ewes sold better at opening, but fell away later owing to heavy supply. Best sorts made 12s 6d to 14s; others, 10s to 12s; 238 from the North Island, 13s to 14s.

Fat lambs—s3oo penned, including many good lines, which sold well, but unfinished sorts were easier. Three thousand were taken for export at 12s to 14s 4d: 300 to butchers at 10s 7d to 14s Id ; a few to graziers at 10s 9d; 200 passed at 10s 8d to 12s. Store sheep lambs. A slightly better demand for all sorts and a good clearance. Wethers, 11s 8d to 13s 7d; small mixed twotooths, 9s Id; dry ewes, 10s to 13s 6d; lambs, 9s 9d to 10s 9d for good; 5s 9d to 8s for inferior; ewes and lambs (poor), 5s Cd, all counted. Pigs—soo yarded. An improved demand for fats, and stores sold exceedingly well for stubbling. Baconers, 34s to 49s Cd; extra to 525, equal to 3)d to 3|d per lb; porkers, 22s to 30s, equal to 3^d to 4d ; big stores, 15s to 235; smaller, 11s to 14s; weaners, 6s 6d to 10s. COMMERCIAL CABLES. LONDON, January 28. Wheat at Mark Lane is quoted 3d to Gd lower on the week. At the wool sales the Paukawa clip brought 6jd per lb, and the Manuka 17jd. SYDNEY, January 28. At the wool sales the demand is excellent, and prices aro firm, holders in many instances asking above the market limit.
