UNDER TURKEY’S FLAG.
Further reports of the state of hopeless anarchy existing throughout Albania and Macedonia have been received frpm Constantinope, and are occuping the attention of the Ambassadors of the Powers.
In the neighbourhood of Ipek, an Albanian brigand named Adem Zaun has made himself a local absolute monarch, and levies taxes on the inhabitants according to his sovereign pleasure. Christians and Mohammedans alike are the victims of this desperado, who orders the execution of all who refuse to recognise his authority or to obey his commands. An inhabitant of Servian nationality, Ivolje Dazoff by name, wa3 cruelly murdered by Adem Zaim’s emissaries for refusing to pay the impost levied on him.
Aq exactly similar state of things exists round Prisrend, where a brigand named Redjep Muhadjer reigns supreme, and in the district of Uscub, where another cut-throat called Ahmed Selam is absolute ruler. All these powerful brigand chiefs are Albanians.
The Turkish authorities profess to ba powerless to deal with these unruly subjects, but as a rule they are in league with them, taking a share of the plunder in return for their discreet indifference to lawlessnes.
