LIZARDS LIKE THE CHAMELEON.
It is a fact not generally known that nearly all of -the common lizards change colour like the chameleon,,hut tho change is less rapid. The ordinary fenco lizard will be black after remaining upon black soil for about half a minute, but. upon an old-fashioned rail fence the animal soon assumes (lie motley groy line of a weatherworn rail. Epon a green leaf tho same lizard will take on a decidedly greenish tint. Tlie change of colour, both in the chameleon and the common lizards, ftp. pears to bo nature’s subterfuge for the protection of the animal.
