Bv 'ast San Francisco man news was received" of the death at San Francisco of Mr Edward Rowe, second son of the late Mr Jas. Rowe, of Wanganui, and brother of Mrs Albert A. Gower, of this town. Receased, who was a most popular young fellow', leaves a large circle of friends, who regret his early death. , A box of heather has been sent to the Wanganui Caledonian Society by Miss M. M. Rush, of Glenluce, Wigtonshire. The receipt of such a generous supply of the national emblem is at an appropriate time, owing to the ensuing sports gathering of the Wanganui Caledonian Society. Thomas Prapell, of Wanganui, brickmaker, was to-day adjudged bankrupt. A meeting of creditors is to be held on the 22nd inst.
Sunday. Mr Maurice Spurdle, who has been accepted for one of the contingents, was on Saturday night farewelled by members of Trinity Young Men’s Institute, of which he had been secretary since its inception. Mr Spurdle was presented by members with a valuable pair of field glasses. Wanganui burgesses are just now exercised over the latest proposal of the Mayor, which practically amounts to the municipalisation of the plumbing trade. The Mayor contends that all sanitary plumbing as well as all drainage work should be done by Corporation master plumbers, and the Plumbers’ Union is up in arms. A warm correspondence, mainly one-sided, is going on v in the local press.
