At a conference held on tho 14th inst. between representatives of tho Union Steam Ship Company and the Huddart Parker Proprietary, it was decided to reduce the freight charges on oats and bran to Melbourne and Sydney to 10s and 12s respectively. In the past the charge on bran to the two abovenamed places was 15s, and for oats 12s to Sydney, and 13s to Melbourne. The duty charged by the Federal Government in Australia is Is per 1001 b on bran, and Is 6d per 1001 b on oats. Tho above reductions have been made with tho idea of coping to a certain orient with the heavy taxes made on produce by the Federal tariff-
