At the suggestion of Mr John O’Halloran, when chairman of the Waimaka-riri-Ashley Water Supply Board, that a reserve of 20.000 acres of bush land should be made near Oxford, on the hills, to preserve the water supply, a reserve of 13,000 acres in the Upper Ashley district has now been made. It is six years (says a Christchurch paper) since the matter was represented to the then Minister of Lands, and it was again taken up by. Mr Meredith, M.H.R., during last session of Parliament, with, the result that the reserve 3547 has now been set aside for the conservation of the water supply.
