j SECRET DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS | -$■ .When the Wellington case Kinsey r. Kinsey was oalled on in the Divorc® Court on Friday, Mr Wilford, acting for respondent, asked that it should be heard in camera. In the course of & conversational discussion a which ensued, Mr Wilford expressed the opinion that all divorce cases should be heard in camera. Mr Justice Edwards dissented from that view, and said if that practice became universal it' would popularise divorce, and lead to an increase in the applications for dissolutions of marriage, which the fear of pub_ licity precluded. Mr Wilford urged that it was desirable to hold secret sittings in order to prevent the newspapers publishing objectionable details. His Honor responded that nothing could fairly be stated against the way in which the newspapers in this colony reported divorce proceedings. Mr Wilford further urged that the Chief Justice had recently granted two or three applications that divorce proceedings should bo heard in camera. As Mr Skerrett, counsel for petitioner, had no objection to the case being heard in camera, it was dealt with privately. After hearing the evidence, his Honor reserved judgment.
