CHRISTCHURCH, February 28. In the Supreme Court to-day, Mr Justice Denniston gave judgment in the case of the Canterbury Jockey Club against Patterson, bookmaker, a claim for damages for trespass on the racecourse. The case involved the question whether the elub had the right to exclude persons from the eourse. Judgment was given for the plaintiff club for <£s. with costs. Proceedings were stayed in order that an

appeal could be made, conditional on its being taken at the next sittings of the Court of Appeal. AUCKLAND, February 28. The accused was discharged. Andrew Walker Breraner and James Parker were charged with theft.
