SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. There were fine weather conditions for cricket on Saturday afternoon, and as a result therei was a large attendance of the public at the Basin Reserve to, witness the play in the matches for the Senior Championship. A collection in aid of the funds of the association was taken up at the gates, and a satisfactory amount was obtained. The batting in Saturday’s games, as a whole, was in marked contrast to the average exhibitions of late, quite a number of players being successful in making fair to good scores in quick time. Clarke gained a century for his first time in Wellington cricket, and was favoured with the customary ovation for the performance. Ashbolt continued in the good bowling form which characterised him in the earlier stage of the Wellington-Midland match, and on Saturday took six wickets for 85 runs, while! Clarke added to his capital batting feat the bowling average of six wickets for 34 runs. Tucker took six Wellington wickets for 56. Reports of each game are appended: MIDLAND v. WELLINGTON.
